Composer Mark Mantel will present the penultimate work in his continuing anti-war/pro peace “Machine Gun” series. In conjunction with Daniel Pearl World Music Days and B61 MOD11 Records/dieforArt Productions, these interdisciplinary events have served to keep the anti war dialogue alive. World Music Days believes in the use of the power of music to reaffirm our commitment to tolerance and humanity. Every iteration of this work takes the spirit of anti war protest expressed by the iconic Jimi Hendrix song Machine Gun, and furthers that spirit to reach a new generation of humankind plagued by the horrors of war and shackled by a wartime economy.
The 11 sections of this work, which loosely chronicle our follies in Afghanistan, Iraq, and elsewhere are presented this time under the new threat of a Syrian conflict, and the realization that an Orwellian world is indeed upon us. The Machine Gun Series – usTaSI: Welcome to the POSTWARconomy is 2 separate quartets, one instrumental and one text based, with the composer playing percussion and electronics presented in tandem. It is a somber look at where we have been, where we are, and where we might very well be going, unless we the people continue to express ourselves forcefully and relentlessly.
